Our drivers can assist with positioning the container, but it is the customer's responsibility to ensure the floor is prepared and materials are available to level the container. Suitable materials include railway sleepers or concrete blocks.
How heavy are the containers?
10ft containers weigh approximately one metric tonne (equivalent to a British ton), 20ft containers weigh around 2.2 tonnes, and 40ft containers weigh about 4 tonnes.
How secure are storage containers?
Storage containers are very secure. They are high tensile steel and have a 27mm treated plywood floor mounted on steel cross members. Standard features include double-opening doors with lockable closing bars and an extra high-security lock box for protection.
Do I need planning permission for a storage container?
In most cases, planning permission is optional for storage containers as they are non-permanent structures. However, suppose the container will be in a residential or sensitive area, near a road junction, or may cause complaints from neighbours. In that case, it is recommended to check with the appropriate authorities.
Can I buy a container after renting it?
Arrangements can be made if you inform us that you may wish to purchase the container after renting. If you decide to buy the container after renting, please contact us to discuss options.
Will Shipping Containers of Leeds repurchase a container I have purchased?
Yes, the price will be based on the market value and transport costs for collection.
How and when do I pay for the container?
Payment can be made by bank transfer, cash, cheque, credit card or debit card. The first payment for rental for the first four weeks and delivery and collection charges are required. Ongoing monthly hire charges will be set up as a standing order payment. Payment must be cleared before the container(s) are released.
Is condensation an issue with storage containers?
Condensation can be an issue with any enclosed space. Most of our storage containers have vents to combat this, and we recommend opening the doors regularly, especially during extreme weather conditions. It is also suggested not to lean or stack sensitive goods directly against the walls of the container. We also offer containers with a special coating on the ceiling to absorb water and prevent dripping on contents.
Will the lorry be able to deliver to my location?
If you are unsure, we can conduct a site survey to check for delivery feasibility.
Can the container be sited under an overhead cable?
Sites should always be checked for overhead cables. If the wires are over 12m high, the delivery lorry can operate underneath them.
